Pedagogy - Incite at Columbia University
Pedagogy
We advance the oral history field and support oral history practitioners by providing training and education opportunities in many forms.
Our series of public programs are available online and in person throughout the academic year. We also provide consulting and professional trainings for hire, and we welcome you to get in touch to learn more.
Our flagship education program is the Oral History Master of Arts Program at Columbia’s Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. This one-year, interdisciplinary degree is the first and only program of its kind. Applications for full-time and part-time students open each year, with a priority application deadline in early March.
For over 30 years, we have offered Oral History Summer Institutes. This intensive training combines hands-on workshops, seminars, peer presentations, excursions through the city, and more. Participants from all over the world, students and faculty, artists and organizers, come together to build their skills and their network. We often organize the institute around a unifying theme, which reflects our latest and ongoing research at Incite Institute.
For 2026, COH is collaborating with our friends and colleagues at Oral History Summer School to offer a special five day hands-on intensive training.
